Hi Everyone,
Today I thought I would share with you some of the way I start out a scrapbook page. My mom has always asked, how do you decide what picture to do? What makes you pick the colors you pick? You know stuff like that. So today I thought I would share with you a little bit of my process and how I start out a layout project…
First thing I learned was…Do not scrap in chronological order. Pick a picture that inspires you…So for example the next layout I’m working on is with this picture….I love this picture of Ethan and his grandparents.
The problem is my mother-in-law is wearing a green sweater and it just seemed to stand out in this picture, so I had it printed in black and white…

Sorry about the glare 🙂 |
Generally when I’m selecting the colors I’ll use with my project I pick from the picture. Since I’m using a black and white photo I can pretty much pick whatever inspires me.
Next I start looking through my cardstock and I pick colors that I want to use as photo mats, titles, accents…
Then I move on to some other pattern paper that I think might coordinate with my main focal color pattern paper. Since I went with a black and white picture I pulled in more black and white (really off-white) colors.
Slowly I start pulling out supplies that I think I may want to use somewhere on my layout.
Like Punches…
embellishments and stamps…
I don’t always use what I pick and sometimes I pick something different as I’m working…
As I start to work on this layout I will snap more pictures and show you more of the process. Thats all for today, I hope you enjoy the day.
Hugs and happy scrapping 🙂
You little tease……Can't wait to see the finished layout I just KNOW it's going to ROCK!!! Hugs, T
Thanks for the tip. I am one who does scrap in chronological order, but I'm working on 3 albums at a time: general; one grandson's 1st year and the other grandson's 1st year (after the 1st b'day they go into general). So now I haven't done a page anywhere for 2011 YET, but it's coming, it's coming. What takes the most time is picking paper, etc., etc., etc.
Great Tips, thank you for sharing your process.
Wonderful tips and tricks Christina. You always inspire me.Thank you.Judy
Especially like your choice of b&w for the photo and the papers you are choosing.Melissa”Sunshine HoneyBee”http://createdbysunshinehoneybee.blogspot.com
Thanks for the tips, about printing in b&w when you have distracting colors and especially about not to scrap in chronological order. I tend to try and do that and am way behind and put off doing something that may not interest me which delays me even more!
Thanks for the tip. I have so many pictures to scrapbook but never know where to start. Great tip on using black and white photographs.
A glimpse into the mind of Christina the scrapper..THANKS totally needed it. I've been thinking of NOT scrapping in chronogilical order too. Going to start this weekend just selecting a photo or even that I love and get them on pages. TFS! Happy fourth of July!
Christine,Thank you for this post. I have been trying to figure out how to start the design process and this helps tremendously. Thanks!Nancy Alexander
Can't wait to see how this turns out. Thanks for the tip on turning the photo to B&W to tone down the sweater.
This process is quite freeing and I can see it lends itself to putting to work the many tools and embellishments that sit in drawers and cabinets. I have been placing the cart before the horse. Thank you.
Choosing colors is the hardest for me. I can't wait to see your finished layout.Thank youLinda in Stanwood
I am a beginner in scrapbooking. And I have found that scrapbooking chronologically is not my thing. I like scrapbooking individual pictures or an event, so much easier.I can't wait to see the rest of your “process”. Thank you for sharing!!
This was very helpful. Thank you so much.
Hi Christina! What a great idea to cover this topic? Thanks so much!Angela Young
Thanks for sharing.
I look forward to more posts about your process in scrapbooking. I have a few different ways of scrapbooking, depending on my mood. It's always fun to hear how others do it. Thanks for sharing with us.
I love the idea of printing the photo in black & white.
Love your ideas. It's always fun to hear how others create and I can use all the help I can get. I get stuck in a rut and I feel like page after page looks the same so thanks for the good ideas.
I recently stopped doing my layouts in chronological order.I was not getting much done because after a while I lost interest. So now I do layouts of things that I really want to work on, right away! Thank you for the tips. You're the best!
Thanks for sharing your scrapping process with us. Can't wait to see the final layout.
I am going to try this the next time I sit down to scrap. I get in a rut sometimes and I end up just making pages because I have these ideas in my head and no pics readily available that fit the project I have planned. LOL!
Ok now I'm anxious to see your finished layout. Thanks for the tips very helpful.
thanks for your process. I'm a chronological scrapper.
I love the layout already! I love all the papers/embellisments you have picked out! I can't wait to see the finished product. Tara
