I thought I would share a story about my dad since Father’s Day is coming.
July of 2007, nearly 2 years ago we got a call that my Dad had fallen at work and they are taking him to the hospital. He hit his head pretty good and they had done a CAT scan. What we didn’t expect was for them to tell us that he had other health problems. That August he had surgery for a shunt. Not to long after that my mom had dropped him at home after a Dr’s appointment and went to run some errands. My poor mom came home and found my dad on the floor. Back to the ER we went only to be sent home and said everything is fine. Two days later my dad was having brain surgery for fluid that built up on the outside of his brain. My dad could no longer walk, sit up on his own or eat anything that wasn’t mushed up. Three months after that surgery he was able to come back home but weighed less than 110 lb’s and still couldn’t sit up in his chair on his own. It was very sad to see my dad like this.
Now for the good news….
Although my dad is still in a wheelchair, and my sister and I miss the days that he used to chase my older brother around the house, he is so much better. We found a great program that he attends 3 days a week. He gets to socialize with other people than his nutty family. They take trips to the casino, dollar store, or just stay at the center and play cards. He’s gained nearly 70lb (that’s a lot for my dad). Can walk a little with assistance and eats everything in sight. He looks great.
One of my dad’s part time jobs was a night security guard at the library my husband and I work at and yesterday through the center he attends he was able to visit us. He was a celebrity and it was so nice to see my dad smiling and talking about old times with all the staff.
So Dad….
I LOVE YOU and HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
Aww Thanks for sharing that story about your dad!! It's really hard to see someone you love going through hard times with health problems. Especially a parent because they've always been a strong figure with guidance and someone to watch out for you. I'm glad he's doing much better now! Take care and have a happy Thursday 🙂

Oh, your story made me cry!! I am glad things are improving. We are going through a much different but yet different situation with my mom and it is so difficult. She has lost tons of weight due to her illnesses but I have packed on tons due to the stress of it. She walks with a walker too and has just had to move out of her home last week. It is very sad to see things like that happen when they used to be so vibrant. I hope your dad has a very wonderful father's day. That part about the library just made me cry! Thanks for sharing your story and your photo.Happy Father's Day, Christina's Dad!

That's very sweet! It made me tear up a little bit because I have been there. When I was 17 my dad fell off the house and he refused to go to the hospital. He said he was fine. Well about six months later he got put into the hospital for phemonia and it just snow balled after that. He had blood clot's in his legs and lungs. One half of a lung was ruined by sometype of chemical that he worked with at work and smelled everyday. Then a year after that we were told he needed a new heart. He had a diffibular put in a satyed in the hospital off and on for two years. He only weighted 120 or less and we were told he did't have much time. My dad was only in his forty's when this all happened. Luckly he got his heart transplant and is only dealing this diabetes. So I have been there, with a sick parent. My heart really goes out to you and your family. Have fun at Disney World!
